Wall Street gains on surprisingly good jobs #s
Wall Street ended the week on a high note, buoyed by a robust U.S. jobs report that exceeded expectations. On Friday, the S&P 500 $SPX ( ▲ 0.33% ) rose 1.2%. Technology stocks led the charge, with notable contributors like Nvidia $NVDA ( ▲ 1.44% ) jumping 1.6% and Apple $AAPL ( ▲ 0.04% ) rising 2.3%. Even Tesla $TSLA ( ▼ 2.21% ) witnessed a resurgence, soaring 5.7%, after a turbulent week marked by…well. You know. It’s funny: There was surprisingly little news about Thursday’s bust-up, there, in the media, the morning after.
Although hiring has slowed, the data reaffirmed the robustness of the job market. Still, ongoing trade tensions and tariffs continue to cast a shadow on certain sectors. Apparel company Lululemon Athletica $LULU ( ▼ 1.84% ) saw its stock plunge by 19.6% after lowering profit expectations due to rising costs and stiff competition.

Do you know anyone whose drug use is well-documented and who is acting out in self destructive ways? Have they lost a load of friends lately? Perhaps it’s time for an intervention? (I thought you said we weren’t going to mention it — Ed.)

You can book Turo car rentals from Uber now
A recent partnership between peer-to-peer car sharing app Turo $TURO ( 0.0% ) and Uber $UBER ( ▼ 1.04% ) is set to accelerate the transformation of the car rental market.
"You log in to Uber, you click on rental cars, and you enter your address that you'd like to pick up the car at...and then Uber will show you all the cars that are available, including Turo vehicles,” said Turo CEO Andre Haddad.
This integration allows users to browse and book Turo vehicles directly within the Uber app, simplifying the rental process. "You don't have to create another account with Turo. You don't have to go to the Turo website to be able to complete the transaction. You can actually book directly on the Uber app," Andre explained.
It’s almost like Uber might eventually buy Turo or something. Don’t you think?
"This is fantastic for Turo hosts," Andre siad. “They're going to get a lot more customers without actually having to do any extra work." By tapping into Uber's extensive user base, Turo hosts can increase their earnings and visibility. Haddad himself, a 12-year host on the platform, expressed his excitement: "I'm excited to start seeing my first Uber guests coming in for the first time in the next few days.”

DA: Mangione said UnitedHealthcare CEO “had it coming”
The shocking murder of the late UnitedHealthcare $UNH ( ▲ 2.39% ) CEO Brian Thompson continues to send ripples across the business and legal communities. Suspect Luigi Mangione, a 27-year-old self-proclaimed revolutionary, has pleaded not guilty to both state and federal charges.
Prosecutors allege that Mangione meticulously planned the December 4, 2024, shooting, believing it to be his way of rebelling against what he called a “deadly, greed-fueled health insurance cartel.” In his diary, Mangione reportedly wrote that killing Thompson would convey the message of a “greedy b__tard that had it coming.”
“This killing was intended to evoke terror,” said Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, emphasizing the broader implications of the crime, which he labeled as politically motivated. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi agreed, describing the murder as a “premeditated, cold-blooded assassination that shocked America.”
Mangione's case has gained widespread attention. It has also sparked debate on the state of the U.S. healthcare system while galvanizing critics of health insurance practices. A hearing is set for June 26.

Shaq and Iverson revive Reebok from obscurity in ‘Power Moves’
Basketball legends Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson are stepping off the court and into the boardroom, partnering to restore Reebok’s former glory for a new Netflix show $NFLX ( ▼ 0.26% ) . The two NBA icons, who once faced off in the 2001 NBA Finals, now collaborate as Reebok Basketball’s president and vice president, and it’s documented in the new docuseries “Power Moves.”
The six-episode series chronicles their journey to reinvent the sneaker brand that shaped their careers. For O’Neal, the mission to revive Reebok is personal. “Now it’s time for us to get Reebok back to prominence,” said Shaq, who played a key role in Reebok’s acquisition by Authentic Brands Group in 2021. His first signature shoe, the Shaq Attaq, helped establish Reebok as a major player in the 1990s. Iverson, whose signature shoes — The Question and The Answer — remain iconic among sneaker enthusiasts, called the project a “full circle moment.” Reflecting on his partnership with Shaq, he said, “I get the honor of doing this with [Shaq], having a relationship with him… He’s just a beautiful guy.”
The duo is focused on modernizing Reebok’s appeal, from signing young stars like WNBA standout Angel Reese to rethinking shoe designs based on insights from Shaq’s son, Shareef. As Shaq puts it, “Sometimes, the best way to be an effective leader is listening to the ones who are really in the trenches.”
With a renewed focus on culture and creativity, O’Neal and Iverson hope their leadership will restore Reebok as a cultural force. “We’re going to show our love to the brand that showed us love,” Iverson said. “It was a power move. We’re here to bring it back.”
Do you have a moldy air conditioner?
Guess what? A bunch of people bought them, I’d imagine, after the New York Times’s Wirecutter site recommended them for ages. Just like me.
Now it turns out that Midea’s “U” air conditioners, known for their innovative design allowing users to close their windows "through" the units, have been linked to 152 reports of mold incidents.
I’m not comparing this issue to RFK’s “brain worm,” but perhaps I have…mold issues?
With summer fast approaching, Midea is taking action to address a significant issue with its popular U and U+ Smart air conditioners. The company is voluntarily recalling 1.7 million units across the U.S. along with an additional 45,900 units in Canada, due to concerns that pooled water inside the units may not drain quickly enough, potentially leading to mold growth.
Of these, 17 consumers reported symptoms associated with mold exposure, such as respiratory infections, allergic reactions, coughing, and sore throats. Sold in three cooling power sizes (8,000, 10,000, and 12,000 BTU), these units were available at retailers like Costco $COST ( ▲ 0.54% ) , Home Depot $HD ( ▲ 0.59% ) , Best Buy $BBY ( ▼ 0.41% ) , and online platforms — including Amazon $AMZN ( ▼ 0.08% ) , where I bought mine.
Consumers affected by the recall are offered two options: repairs or refunds. According to Midea, refunds will require customers to ship back their units or submit photographic proof of cutting the unplugged power cord. Repairs will include either technician services or do-it-yourself kits with a new drain plug. Midea has urged customers to inspect their units while awaiting resolution by visiting MideaU Recall.
Safety first: Address mold concerns proactively this summer. For more details, visit Midea’s recall page or call their hotline at 888-345-0256 during business hours.
